Preach, Pray, & Plug Away

1. The Gospel: The Greek word for “gospel” in the New Testament is, “euaggelion,” (pronounced “e-van-gel-ion”) which simply means, “good news.”  Thus, the gospel is the “good news concerning God’s glory and humanity’s salvation by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ,” Romans 1:16-17.
2. Disciple: The Greek word for “disciple” is, “mathetes” (pronounced “math-e-tes”) and means, “student or pupil.” In regards to Jesus, a disciple is a “committed follower and student of Jesus’ teachings,” Matthew 28:19-20.
3. Preach/Proclaim/Evangelize: Preach (κηρύσσω) pronounced “ke-rus-so,” Mark 3:14), Proclaim (diaggell0), pronounced “di-an-ge-llo,” Luke 9:60), and Evangelize (euaggelion) pronounced “e-van-ge-li-zo,” Acts 8:4-5) all basically mean the same thing- “to publicly make known the gospel.”

1. God: Created man with free will possessing the power of “self-identity & freedom” for a loving relationship with Himself, Genesis 1:26, 3:8-9.
2. Man: Willing sinned and separated himself from God and came under the just wrath of God, Romans 3:9-23.
3. Jesus Christ: Died on the cross and bore the judgment of God for sinners so that by His resurrection all might live and not perish, John 3:16 & Romans 5:8-9, 6:4.
4. Faith: By freely putting one’s full trust in God and confessing Jesus as “Lord,” a person is restored to fellowship with God and free from the wrath their sins justly deserve, John 3:16 & Romans 10:9-10.

Seven Things the Gospel Brings

1. New Creation: Jesus gives the Holy Spirit to those who believe to be born again in their inner nature and made a brand new creation, John 3:3 & 2 Corinthians 5:17.
2. Redemption: To “buy back or release from legal obligation.”  Jesus bought back and released mankind from the curse of sin and the law by dying on the cross, Galatians 3:13.
3. Reconciliation: To “bring peace between two parties.”  Jesus’ suffering on the cross brought perfect peace between God the Father and repentant mankind, Romans 5:10.
4. Atonement: To “bear the sins of others to bring forgiveness.”  Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was the sacrificial payment for the all sins of the entire world, 1 John 2:2.
5. Salvation: To “save from destruction.”  Jesus saves and grants eternal life to everyone who believes in Him, Romans 1:16.
6. Justification: To “make right or just.”  Jesus makes sinners righteous and just in the sight of God the Father when they put their faith in His sacrifice, Acts 13:38-39 & Romans 4:25.
7. Sanctification: To “make holy by cleansing from sin.”  The blood of Jesus cleanses all those who confess their sins and put their faith in Him, Hebrews 10:29.

1. For the Glory of God, Philippians 2:9-11 & Revelation 5:13-14.
2. For the Love of God, John 3:16 & Romans 5:8.
3. For the Salvation of All Mankind, Acts 10:42-44, Romans 10:14, & 1 Timothy 2:4.
4. For the Kingdom of God to Come to Earth, Matthew 6:9-10 & Luke 4:18-19.
5. For the Eternal Rewards of Heaven, Matthew 6:19-21 & 1st Corinthians 9:16-18.
